2009 birthday card collection

In 2009 I made 31 hand-painted birthday cards… And here they are!
In 2010 I'll be doing a birthday card series again… But this time I'll be using color laser printing as part of the project.
It's a necessary evil. Printing allows me to make a smaller pool of paintings -- so there's more time to do animation. It also enables me to send cards to a larger number of recipients. At 3-4 hours per card last year, I wasn't able to be as inclusive as I'd like.
There are still limits… But it's definitely a more expansive project this time around.

I feel a little weird that the first one is from Dec 23, 2008…
But practically, the cycle of birthdays kinda has to begin with the xmas birthday folk, y'know?

idea for consideration: What if you painted a much larger sheet, with your exuberant colors and free-wheeling joyousness, and then cut it down to several tiny 3x3 jewels, to be featured on quality blank greeting cards?

I actually considered that very idea, Shells!
...I found it very interesting to see how different people responded to hand-made cards last year...
It seems no one appreciates original art so much as another artist.
I might still consider doing full-on hand-painted cards for the handful of souls who I know really grok the blessing. ;-)

i'm imagining how awesome it would be to receive the cut-down cards, though, and then see a post with the whole painting assembled from the other cards sent that year.

I see my card in the mosaic! I feel so privileged to have an original Sven - it hangs above my desk where I see it every day.
